Mind control.
by New day inin a recent thread someone mentioned that the wtbts uses mind control techniques.
do you think this is a conscious ploy?
if it is it would mean that the leaders of my religion (i am still an active jw) set out consciously to control people.

Very interesting responses to my question. What set me off on this track was that we have a few new elders in our cong, one of whom was basically sent in to replace me when I resigned as an elder less than a year ago. He is a very nice guy but now sees ut as part of his mission to try to include me in lots of the theocratic activities like reading at the meetings and has even asked me to take a field ministry meeting. I suppose he is hoping that I get back on that horse again. Everything he does is out of the elders playbook in how to help this bro who has slowed down, when all I want to do now is sit on the sidelines. The other new elders are also nice guys but even more super theocratic and can't quite make me out but they are also casually asking me when I can go on the ministry with them. Looking at it now from the outside, as it were, they are all, to varying degrees, products of thinking processes instilled through elders schools, CO visits etc. -

In a recent thread someone mentioned that the WTBTS uses mind control techniques. Do you think this is a conscious ploy? If it is it would mean that the leaders of my religion (I am still an active JW) set out consciously to control people. They would be knowingly manipulating matters in order to repress people. This is almost too terrible to contemplate. Or perhaps this is a by product of a form of religious zealotry that has gotten out of hand. Maybe the initial motivation was sound but now they have introduced so many rules and regulations that they have too much to lose by changing. What do you think? -

Assembly Assessment increased 300%
by James Jack inwhile at the assembly, when reading the financial statement, i noticed our expenses went from $2500 to almost $9500 so i questioned an elder and said that the assessment per publisher is at $10.50 for all in the us branch territory.. he added this helps the society know how much is coming in and helps them plan out future projects!.

Our circuit had to make up the deficit from a circuit assembly about two years ago. Our cong had to send x amount based on amount of publishers. This is mentioned somewhere in the organization book I think. Somebody also mentioned about the BOE having to make up the difference. This happened with a local cong deficit in our hall some years ago. All appointed bros had to contribute personally to get us out of trouble. When the same situation re-occurred about a year or so ago I refused to get involved and told the other elders thst it was not the BOE's baby but all the cong needed to contribute. The idea was dropped . All of this was part of what led to my resignation as an elder. -

I think this depends on how the question was phrased by the reporter. Was she asking in the context of somebody simply stopping meeting attendance and lapsing into inactivity? If so his answer could be said to be ok. If, however, the question was in the context of somebody doing something that warranted disfellowshipping, he could be said to have mislead her. -

Brother so and so doesn't accept counsel
by hoser ini am not sure if anyone else here heard this phrase.
i did from a circuit overseer when i was a servant many moons ago.
with my newly enlightened mind i finally understand what this means.

Outlaw, that's pathetic. So boring to wheel out the "elder who is a cleaner" cliche. What he does for a living does not have to relate to his intelligence. -

My wife has been sick for a while and has missed many meetings. Just the other day I was given a card for her signed by all the members of our (foreign language) group. It touched us deeply. So that basic human and Christian kindness goes a long way. Even though I have major issues with the org on the generation teaching and the new funding arrangements I still feel a great warmth and love for the average bro or sis who is simply trying to be a Christian. -

Effect of reading here.
by New day insaomebody mentioned in a recent thread here i think that the more they read here the more they feel angry at the wt.
personally, as an ex-elder (only resigned a few months ago) i feel that it is more like suddenly being on the outside looking in at a whole group of people playing parts.
the zealous pioneers answering all the time.

I suppose what made me think of all of this is that my wife played the role of pioneer for many years against her natural shyness and this has caused her huge problems as her natural personality was suppressed. Now she is almost a recluse as the pressure made her crack. -

Personally, as an ex-elder (only resigned a few months ago) I feel that it is more like suddenly being on the outside looking in at a whole group of people playing parts. The zealous pioneers answering all the time. The uber-elder getting up on the platform and getting into character as the encouraging wise older man, even though he is younger than me. I would be interested to know if others feel that we assume roles as we enter the KH. -

Circuit Overseer's Cars - Anybody got the answers?
by The Searcher inatlantis provided a uk branch letter regarding a 3 levy per publisher to pay for the britain branch c.o.s 85 new cars.
http://www.jehovahs-witness.com/topic/126700001/2-new-boes-watchtower-begging-money-volunteers.
with approximately 120,000 publishers in the uk, that will rake in 360,000. .

Jhine, the circuit overseers get a monthly allowance as full-time servants of the org. I don't know what the amount is but it isn't that much. When they visit congs they receive expenses from each cong for things like toiletries and incidental food expenses. All their meals are supplied either by the couple they stay with or they have a main meal each day with different families. They also receive fuel and maintenance expenses each week from the cong they visit. We recently had a wt study which strongly hinted that individual Witnesses should maybe pay for their medical expenses as I don't know if these are covered. When they retire they are farmed out to congs as special pioneers on a small pension. -

Adverts
by New day injust noticed that one of the ads that keeps popping up on my page (but only when i am on this site) is for a company called ministry ideas which sells all sorts of folders etc.
for use in the ministry by witnesses.
i have looked up this site at times and am appalled at the crass commercialism of it, but ironic that it appears when browsing on this site!
